Basement remodeling

In a cottage in the absence of insulation on the perimeter of the basement, up to 20% of all heat loss can come to the area of the heated basement. Extruded polystyrene is especially advantageous to use for the perimeter zone, where the elements of the building as a result of contact with the ground must meet very strict requirements for water resistance, insulation, aging resistance, strength, resistance to cycles of freezing - thawing. Due to the closed cellular structure of extruded polystyrene foam boards have a number of advantages:

  • Low thermal conductivity
  • High compressive strength to resist the considerable pressure of the soil and use the material on a large deep-seated
  • Dimensional stability
  • Immune to moisture and the almost complete absence of water absorption
  • Not being of the aging process
  • Ease of processing.

The products made of extruded polystyrene foam are firm at depth more than 20 ft. (depending on brand) and if there is a prolonged contact with water under pressure. If the exterior basement walls need only insulation, and drainage is not required or is made by usual methods (eg, through the filter layer of gravel), then the most effective thing is using the extruded polystyrene board over the waterproofing, which provides additional mechanical protection.

It is recommended to warm basements with extruded polystyrene foam followed by plastering on the grid. Embossed surface of the board promotes better adhesion of plaster. When the device insulation base plate extruded polystyrene is placed directly on the net leveling layer plastic film and covered with overlap at the edges. If the insulation strength under compression considerations are particularly of high demands, we recommend to choose the appropriate grade insulating plates.
